Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett thinks the NCAA went too far when it imposed stiff sanctions against Penn State University in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal -- and now he's planning a federal lawsuit over it.
The Republican governor has a press conference scheduled for Wednesday on the Penn State campus where he's expected to announce the filing of the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg.
The only problem is that the university formally agreed to the sanctions in July. They include a $60 million fine that'll be used to fund child abuse prevention grants, a four-year ban from bowl games, a cut in football scholarships and the forfeit of 112 victories, which resulted in legendary head football coach Joe "JoePa" Paterno to be stripped of his record as winningest NCAA football coach of all time.
