COVID-19 Variant From UK Recognized in Maryland

Governor Larry Hogan revealed today, Tuesday, Jan. 12 that the contagious UK alternative strand of COVID-19 has been identified in Maryland.

According to CBS Baltimore, there are two known cases of the detection in the state and they lie in the same household in Anne Arundel County. It is a married couple and one of the individuals has recently traveled to the United Kingdom.

The couple has two kids and they are currently quarantining together.

A state lab confirmed the results after a private lab initially questioned "some strange sequences" as reported by WBAL.
