Scientists Discover Fossils Of 5 FT Tall Penguin

This isn't something you hear everyday.

Scientists in New Zealand have discovered fossils of a pre-historic penguin who towered at over five ft tall and would have weighed approx. 170 lbs. They have labeled this new species as Crossvaila waiparensis and gathered that is it somewhere between 56 and 66 million years old, which deems it as the "oldest known penguin species, according to a statement from the Canterbury Museum in Christchurch" as reported by NBC News.

The fossils were dug up in North Canterbury and will be put on display at the Canterbury Museum at some point later this year.
